UKIP welcomes local justice for local people
UKIP Prospective Assembly Candidate for Strangford, Stephen Crosby has welcomed David Ford’s latest U-turn on the proposed closure of Newtownards Courthouse.
Commenting, Mr. Crosby said:
“The Courthouse is one of the busiest in the country and the prospect of moving all of this to Belfast would have had a detrimental effect for the most vulnerable in our society.
“Local people deserve local access to local justice. There would have been serious inconvenience caused by the length of travel, higher parking costs, an unfamiliar and potentially intimidating environment to court users if they had been transferred to Belfast.”
“Following the closure of Bangor’s Courthouse, the new Super Council could have become a legal desert. Fortunately common sense has prevailed on this occasion.
I would like to thank all those who campaigned to save the Courthouse from threatened closure. Let’s maintain local justice for local people in Newtownards.”
