McNarry says Secretary of State’s statement falls short of key requirement to disband Provo Army Council
David McNarry MLA, UKIP’s leader in Northern Ireland, has said :
“Today’s statement by the Secretary of State does not address the removal of the Provo Army Council and the consequential disbandment of the IRA.
Unless and until a Secretary of State is able to make an unambiguous statement on the ending of the existence of the IRA there can be no future Executive in Northern Ireland.
The point remains : how can an Assembly in tatters continue to mal-function whilst losing public support? The people will not countenance any party approved fit for Government with inextricable links to a private army.”
