McNarry calls for greater integration of private sector in seven day health service debate

David McNarry MLA, UKIP leader in Northern Ireland has called for greater integration of private sector healthcare in national health service in the seven day health service debate.

He said :

“The Health Service clearly lacks numbers in key senior positions right across the spectrum of specialisms. Yet, right on our doorstep, sits an expanding, efficient and effective private sector with ample capacity to take the slack in the public sector health service. The most proficient, expert clinicians work in both the private and public health sectors. Seven day cover is available right now if only it was managed properly.

The public health sector uses the private sector regularly in order to manage its often lamentable figures. It pays out millions of pounds while failing to keep pace with its lengthy appointments list. It is, therefore, a no-brainer to integrate the capacity of the private sector to reduce waiting times and meet rising demand. I would urge the Health Minister to include the capacity available in the private sector in the debate on Seven day care he wishes to commence.”
