HIGGINSON: DSD Minister needs to address housing issues on Lower Shankill

UKIP West Belfast candidate Brian Higginson has called on the housing executive and the DSD minister to urgently repair houses that are boarded up in the Hopewell Avenue, Crescent  and Square areas of the Lower Shankill.

Commenting he said:

“During my canvass this week whilst out and about talking to nearby residents, it was evident for all to see the large amount of houses with grills on the doors and windows; with a message on the doors that more social housing is needed as a priority in this area. Given the clear demand in this area, surely it should be a priority of our executive to have these available houses refitted and get tenants into them?  With new houses being built in the area , it wouldn’t cost as much to refit these much needed houses for local families who are  looking houses in the area close to family and friends.

I will be writing to the housing executive and the DSD minister looking for an urgent meeting to discuss finding a resolution to this issue. I hope  that funding can be released to get the work done on this much needed housing in the Lower Shankill  Road area.

UKIP policy is to make sure that more affordable social housing is available in areas of high housing shortages and I will make this a clear priority as a pledge to the local community.
