LOVE: Street lighting funding crisis

Alan Love, a UKIP spokesman in Lagan Valley, has expressed concern about reports of street lighting not being repaired in Moira. Mr Love commented:

“This is of course a Northern Ireland wide problem as the Department for Regional Development takes it share of the severe Budget cuts arising from incompetent financial management by the Stormont Coalition.”

Mr Love continued:

“Unfortunately there is little alternative for DRD than to accept its pruned budget but that doesn’t necessarily mean repair work must be cut back so severely. It is time the DRD looked urgently and seriously at switching off street lights between 1 am and 6 am. This would not only provide savings which could boost the repair budget but would be beneficial for the health of those who have to sleep in brightly lit areas.”
