Paul Nuttall MEP, deputy leader of UKIP, David McNarry MLA, UKIP Northern Ireland, and new UKIP Mid and East Antrim Area Councillor Noel Jordan met this morning with Rodney Stewart, one of the senior Gallaher Trade Union leaders for a briefing on the current situation at JTI Gallaher.

Commenting, the three UKIP representatives said :

“We found the meeting very informative and extended our concern to all workers at Gallahers. We gave a commitment that UKIP’s team of MEP’s in Brussels would be working on this issue in a forward-looking way. David McNarry MLA will keep a watching brief in the NI Assembly regarding funding for retraining of the workforce and Councillor Noel Jordan, who has many Gallaher workers living in his local area will keep a watching brief on hardship issues. UKIP as a national party have made themselves available to workers’ representatives and hope to have follow-up meetings as the situation develops.”
